John Abbott is a gambler who has had the fortune to marry into a wealthy family. Lately he has been slipping into shady deals, and his bride, Marsha, has had to bail him out a few too many times. Marsha has had enough, and refuses to come through on his latest debt. Working herself up into a frenzy, Marsha collapses.

While John leaves to contemplate his problems, his freeloading brother, Alan, talks with Marsha’s younger sister, Anita. Will he sweep her off her feet, and connect with his own money supply? How will that help, or hurt the relationship[ between John and Marsha? Everybody is suddenly concerned over Marsha’s health. Isn’t she just supposed to be a hypochondriac?
