At breakfast,Connie Brooks tells Mrs Davis about the gambling trouble at school, and some of he reforms that Mr Conklin proposes. On the way to School, Connie finds she may have reason to be in hot water with her boss, over a school phone bill that was delegated to Walter, then to Stretch to pay.

At school, Mr Conklin shares with his daughter, Harriet, why the meeting with the school board over gambling is so important. After the phone bill matter is cleared up, the school now has a new number, one formerly belonging to a bookie. A phone installer is on hand, so the matter should be cleared up… right? Not before more mix ups prevent it.

Reviewing the play by play of the mixed up phone bill with Mr Boynton, Connie worries the phone company has come to disconnect service. Connie fesses up, at the risk of her job, bug she gets a reprieve as long as she acts as secretary for the meeting with Mr Stone. . Incriminating evidence abounds. Will Mr Stone be understanding when the truth behind the mix ups emerge?
