He was a pirate, a rogue, and a patriot. Jean Lafeat had a price on his head by the governor of Louisianna. The Brittish see his worth, and offer him a pardon if he’ll join their side, but LaFeat wants to both impress a society lady, and remain loyal to America. He has riches and wealth, but he can’t offer the lady respectability.

Being a pirate, his men disobey orders and ransack a ship, but through the ordeal, we also learn that LaFeat is a pirate with a moral conscious as he berates his men, and rescues a feisty girl from the sea. She falls in love with the pirate, and when they are met by American ships, they expect to join forces to fight, but are instead fired upon.

Determined to fight with General Jackson, LaFeat meets with him with much needed supplies, and fighting men. The reward of a full pardon is shortlived when after the battle is over, the girl, Gertrude is set on winning the affections of LaFeat. Her efforts end up ruining his chances with the society lady, and his reputation as a pirate finds him on the outs with the governor. LaFeat is set free, but is left a man without a country as he sails into the proverbial sunset.
