Nigel Bowlingbrook, friend, Shakespearean actor, and pool hall bum, stops George to make a deal to buy a bundle of back issues of his favorite magazine, Cowboy Love Tales. It only cost him $30. Little does he know that Gracie just offloaded his collection to Bowlingbrook for the sum of 50 cents for the entire collection for the waste paper drive She just can’t stand that magazine, or having George read it. Bill Goodwin pops in with his bundle of magazines, and a sponsor message.
Jimmy Cash sings, Yours is My Heart Alone. Though Gracie is motivated to win the paper drive contest, one bundle of items she doesn’t want to part with is a bundle of love letters from George. She reads a few nuggets of verse that expresses George’s undying love. Tootsie arrives with a few pounds of paper for Gracie. The postman arrives with a bill, but will he let Gracie have his whole mail bag to add to the drive? Felix Mills, and the Swantets perform, What Do You Do In The Infantry.
One last, frantic search of the neighborhood begins. Will it be enough to win the contest? After Bill Goodwin delivers on another commercial, it could be George’s chance to sing on the air. At the least, Gracie pitches the need for Americans to support the war effort.
