Johnny investigates a matter of a race horse, and a question of insurance fraud. Piledriver is facing being killed since he hasn’t won any races, but is his owner trying to stage an accident to collect the insurance money?
Posing as a horse trader, Johnny digs for some inside scoop at the homestead of the horse owner. He even makes progress with the man’s daughter. It’s a dangerous mix that leads to fist fights, but will it ruin Johnnies chances to learn more from the old man.
Things heat up when the barn catches fire, but it’s not the body of a horse that is found in the ashes. Johnny sees through the evidence, and knows Neddie the Jockie was murdered. Who had the motive to kill him? Which of the players in this story could have done the deed? Truth emerges among the skeletons that are dragged out of the closet of family affairs.
