Adventures In Research – The Man Who Found A Continent. ep8, 430323 (retro428)

In 1823 an expedition to the center of the earth was proposed. The idea was that the earth was hollow, and that people could be liing in it’s interior region. Also that the best ways to descend to the interior of the earth was through either of the North pole or the South Pole. Prepostrious!

Dispite the outrageous proposition, Congress still gave Captain Simms support to conduct his studies. Think of the new kind of foreign relations, or commerce that might be conducted with such a people. The expidition never happened, and was all but forgotten.

In 1838, an expedition to Antarctica set sail with more realistic goals. Join to listen to the drama as the ship recorded it’s scientific findings. Snow, cold, and fog all take their toll on the crew over the course of a year. Sailing over 1600 miles along it’s coast, and without interuption, the continent has been defined.

The door to more exploration is now opened, but might that old
Simms theory have something to it? Will scientists discover the hollow earth, and the people living there?
