Retro OTR Diary – Vic and Sade – Uncle Fletcher’s Door Stop Plan. ep003

Join Keith, and guest Jimbo Mason, as they talk about the plan Uncle Fletcher has for doorstops.

Vic and Sade was a blend of the mundane small town life, with some of the most absurd situations. The show’s writer, Paul Rimer thrust outrageous situations on the typical family.

Jimbo admits this isn’t his favorite episode. The size of the railroad rail doorstops is pushing the limits of funny. Also the slogans on the velvet covers are not Paul Rimer’s best.

Keith says, “I can agree about the implausibility of the extreme weight of the doorstops. To me it isn’t really any more far fetched than throwing golf clubs from a train moving at 60MPH. In that situation, Vic was actually expected to catch them. From the direction of the conversation in the episode, I’d say that Fletcher never went through with it.”

Besides the odd gift, the extreme weight, and the lame sayings, there’s plenty of classic Paul Rimer writing in play. Vic has plenty of off the wall things to say. Will Fletcher make the ungainly doorstops for his favorite people? It’s doubtful, and a typical distraction is tossed into the show.

Other classic moments involve distractions like the phone rings, the characters all tell us the phone is ringing, and Rush tries to predict who it might be.
