Jack Benny – The ShootingOfDanMcGrue 550327 (retro446)

Rather than a glimpse into Jacck’s house, Don takes us to Bob Crosby’s house as he gets ready for a personal appearance. Is the bandleader and radio personality spending too much time away from home? A dinner party is planned, and Bob gives Jack a call for a night of fun.

At Jack’s house, Dennis Day pops in to ask a favor, and the two Navy vets compare tattoos. Dennis sings, Hey Brother Pour the Wine.

Rochester has returned from grocery shopping, and Jack browses his library for a good book of poems. He gets engrossed in the Shooting of Dan McGrue.

As his imagination runs wild, Jack dreams that he’s a gun toting prospector on the way to the great white North, and the promise of gold. Joining up with his partner, Don Wilson, they encounter an Eskimo to ask for directions.

With their pockets full of gold, Jack and Don return to the salloon, and the affections of a gal named Lou. Dennis is the vicious Dan McGrue, and jealous of his gal Lou. The lights go out, a woman screams, and two bodies lay on the floor as Jack’s day dreaming ends.
