As Chester shows off his new horse to Matt, the stage coach pulls up to tell about trouble down the trail. Doc is a passenger, and he has been shot badly. Matt prepares for the grim task of tending for Doc, who is concious enough to talk the lawman through the proceedure.
Will Matt be forced to do the surgery on his friend, or can he handle using chloroform to knock Doc out? Kitty assists as Doc explains the use of the medical probes, and other devices. As Doc is nursed round the clock by Kitty, Chester and Matt turn to figuring out who might have had it in for the well loved medical man. Was it a stranger in town?
Bricker shows up without much searching. The man tells the tragic tale of how his child died because Doc was out of town on vacation. Is that any reason to shoot Doc? Is Bricker sorry for his crime, and is trying to turn himself in? Will Doc be OK?
