When Vic gets word of the happenings at the Stembottoms, he becomes indignant. Being the polite person she is, Sade has accepted an invitation to play cards.
So, why is Vic bent out of shape? It’s all just a ruse to get Vic over so he can help Fred install a concrete partition. Rather than a fun round of cards, the evening will be spent getting grubby, and doing manual labor. Vic is ready to give Fred a piece of his mind, which makes Sade worry that somebody will be insulted by Vic’s words.
To his credit, Vic puts Fred on the spot without being harsh. Though Sade sees Vic’s point about being misused by their friends, she still feels sorry for Ruthie, and being caught in the middle of the power play between the two menfolk.
