Lum and Abner – Lum Wants To Be A Hero. 350904. Horlicks: Scientific studies have proven what everybody already knows, that a heavy lunch makes you drowsy. To combat that afternoon sleepiness, take a light Horlicks lunch.

Down in Pine Ridge, the stockholders are holding Lum responsible for the failure of the silver mine, though it wasn’t his fault. Today, Abner explains his concern and doubts that Lum’s plan to be a hero will help matters. He wants to pretend that Abner has been kidnapped so Lum can rescue him, and let people think that he’s a hero. Also to fend off the boycott on the rolling store, he wants to make it seem that grandpap has bought out Lum’s part of the store.

Abner doesn’t want to go along with the kidnapping plan, and doesn’t like the idea of people fretting over him, and making them worry. Lum lays the guilt trip on thick. It must be working, because Lum also lays on a bunch of those old Edwards sayings, and Abner is too preoccupied to get confused over any of them.

Lum manages to turn the tables, and before you know it, he’s the one offering help to Abner in making his kidnap plans. Lum makes out a list of the kidnap trappings they’ll need to pull off their fake kidnapping. Ladders, ropes, kidnap notes, ransom demands, and the like. What’s Abner worth for a ransom anyway? Ten dollars? Oh, why not splurge and raise the stakes… fifty dollars!

The two friends finalize their plans and the fake kidnapping is on.

Horlicks: A woman writes to tell about how Horlicks helped her baby get over her collic. As soon as the baby went on the Horlick diet, the crying stopped.
