Buck, Wilma, and Doc Huer have taken an underground trip to the City of Ore. A city full of uranium, and other precious metals and geological compounds. Our heros are about to leave with samples of gold and uranium when Doc is missing, and the lives of the peple of the city are in danger. Can the mechanical mole help save the city and its inhabitants? The impending calamity involves a blocked water tunnel, and the water supply can't get through. As the city official explains the dangers in great detail, he tells of the futuristic technology that keeps the city going so far under the earth. Dangerous gas also threatens the city, and it's only right that Buck fix the whole mess, since it was him in the mechanical mole that caused it. There's something familiar about that gas... Hey, didn't the first expedition under the earth end up with the mole finding a gas pocket? Uh-Oh. There just may be anexplosion before the show is done. And Wilma is trapped outside the protection of the mole! Spaceships armed with disintegrators are used to dig through the earth. Far below the surface, Buck, Wilma, and Doc all come to, and hear the rescue atempts over the radio. With radio contact made, our heros claim that they are still up for cintinuing their exploration, and are going deeper. Oh that Buck, such a man of understatement. Gotta love his closing statement, "if anything exciting happens, we'll let you know." As if it has already. Doc describes the technology behind how the mole uses heat ... In our last episode, Buck was in danger of suffocating after the initial disaster of unveiling the mechanical mole. Today Buck is back to health and in Doctor Huers lab with Wilma Dearing. Doc describes the technology behind how the mole uses heat rays to melt it's way through solid rock and move forward. Inside the cockpit of the mole, Wilma asks about all the controls and features. Disturbing word suddenly arrives, but it's just a scheme of Black Barney just wanting to snoop around and have a look at the mechanical mole. Buck decides to pull a prank on him, then our heros get busy on making their start on their underground adventure. The heat rays need some work in keeping the solid granite melted, but when the mole enters a pocket of natural gas, those heat rays are like holding a lit match over an open gas tank. Oopsie, I think that doc needed to have thought things through a little better. Will Buck and his friends be blown to bits? The answer comes in the next thrilling installment. PS: When talking about Black Barney's spy camera that is being used, storing video images on a wire, is much the same technology behind what makes a photo copier work. It would be a neat trick though for use in a practical camera. Not to mention that by the 25th century, digital technology will likely have been perfected, and become obsolete, and some new storage format will be in affect. Just recently our heros have come from an adventure out past the moons of Jupitor in pursuit of Killer Kane and Ardellah. Today they are safely back on earth in doc Huers science lab, with Kane and Ardella safely locked away, a new adventure is about to begin. The doc has created a new invention known as the mechanical mole. Buck is out doing test flights on new space rockets, but doc and Wilma want him back to help test the mechanical mole. As you might imagine, the invention is to be a vehicle that will explore the depths of the earth. In his describing it, Doc tells facts about the earth's core. With the friends gathered together, a crowd has also gathered to catch a glimpse of the mole. Suddenly,word comes in that Killer Kane and Ardella managed to escape their prison. Watch out everybody! The Mechanical Mole is moving by itself. Yu don't suppose that Kane and Ardellah have something to do with this do you? Howe did they manage to escape and get back to earth so quickly any way? A well meaning palace guard is trapped when he tried to capture Kane, and spills the beans to him and Ardella about the happenings in the palace. The secret of Buck and his presence on the moon is out. Now what will Kane do? The overly talkative guard seems to have his own plans for a take over. No sooner than Doc makes his exit, than Barney enters on his business with Kane. Using his influence as an upright citezen, Barney asks for a large amount of supplies on credit.
