Bob Hope (Pepsodent Preview) Camp Callin. 420208

Bob “Army Officer” Hope tries on a couple alternate openings for this rehearsal. The camp, located near San Diego gets teased about its ocean side location, black outs, dice, being in the guardhouse, officers, the foggy weathered and more. Military secrets and jokes about them abound. Daylight Saving Time is to begin, and takes over as the focus of jokes. Getting up early, milking cows, flubs in the hen house, mixed up radio schedules, and more. Jerry Kolonna phones in with his own jokes on the time change. What does it have to do with sugar shortages, Jerry’s girlfriend, or the time in other time zones? Maybe nothing.

Francis Langford sings, I Don’t Want to Walk Without You. Joining the jokes, Francis gets in on such topics as beans, beaches, palm trees, dating soldiers, buglers, and being in good shape. Billie Burke joins the fun and gets thrilled to be one of the few ladies on the base. Letters from home, radio programs, and whopping the boys into the fighting spirit are some of her topics with Bob. They joke about how fast the airplane plants are turning out airplanes. Will Bob be joining up soon? Dating, MP’s, and the big costal guns turn to the forefront of jokes. Skinny Ennis, the Red Cross, matters of health, and more are discussed. How might Billie help with the soldier’s morale? Homemade goodies, making sweaters, mending socks, or buttons, or some other way? The Six Hits and a Miss sing, Blues in the Night.

In another installment in the Life of Bob Hope, he and Skinny Ennis are in the Army, on KP, but get to go dancing with Betty Hutton and Francis Langford. An emergency means the guys need to return to camp. Captain Jerry Kolonna puts out the call to return to camp, as well as other alerts to be aware of as troops return. Will the guys make it to camp before lights out? Will there be trouble if Betty and Francis accompany the guys? Sneaking in won’t be easy, especially with Jerry on duty at the gate.
