Abbott and Costello – Christmas Shopping. 441214.

Lou is excited as he tells about his cousin who is serving in the military in Africa. He talks to Bud about the Christmas gifts they have recieved, and anticipate recieving. Lou talks about his new girlfriend, her appearance, and the gift he is going to give her.

Bud gets Lou confused over explaining a thing or two about pianos. The jokes break down into a sketch where Bud has Lou loan him money, and turns it around so Lou ends up owing Bud instead. Definitely a classic moment. Commercial time.

Connie Haines sings, Trolley Ride. Wow, what a popular song, I think she has sang it the most of any other song on the programs. At least of the programs that still exist.

Bud and Lou take their own trolley ride and do some Christmas shopping. Lou has a couple close encounters with female travellers. In the department store they run into Sebastian who has a job as a floor walker.

Shouldn’t Sebastian be at school? He tells why he is skipping it. He gets confused over what a deer is, then Mr Kitzel the store manager arrives. Kitzel helps Bud and Lou pick out Christmas Gifts for their loved ones. More commercial time.

Freddie Rich plays, Whispering.

After three hours of shopping, Lou still hasn’t found that perfect gift for his gal. Whew, that was a long song that Freddie Rich played.

Lou gets confused over Bud’s suggestion for making a gift of a pair of mules. I can’t blame him, I haven’t heard of that term for house slippers either.

Lou gets more confused at a sales lady who has a unique speaking style. Also about the perfume, and other products she’s trying to sell. Even more confusion reigns over word plays on hair styles, and figures of speech. Lou gets to try out a machine designed to reduce weight. Does it work? You’ll have to listen and find out.

As an epilog, Bud and Lou plug the need for women to join the Army Nurse Corps.
