Lum and Abner – Rehearsing Lum’s War Bond Play. 440127

For the moment Lum has put aside the barbering business. We find him busily writing a play. It’s the most important thing he can think of to do to support the upcoming war bond rally. Will they be letting the soldiers down if they don’t go through with it? Grandpap, Mousey, and Cedric are on hand to help Abner with the read through.

Abner is worried that Lum will be promoting his barber shop, but it’s time to practice the dramatic scenes. Will Abner have to worry about scaring wolves and foxes away? He and Cedric get confused over Lum’s idea of military jargon, habits, and culture. Is he sure he’s not trying to advertise the barber shop?

Lum tries to prove his point that buying war bonds provides working weapons and bullets for the troops. General Grandpap struggles with the lines to add to the confusion, although the point to keep buying war bonds is pretty clear. And is Lum really trying to use the play to profit in his barbering business?
