Great Gildersleeve – The Canary Won’t Sing. ep14, 411130 (retro578)

Coming home from the movies, Gildersleeve finds that he has a canary in his living room. It’s a prize that he won from a raffle drawing at Birdie’s lodge, Gildy sets out to teach the canary to sing, but the bird refuses to respond. Should he take the bird back? Maybe some research at a pet store, or the library will help Napoleon to sing.

The research proves to be so fascinating that Leroy and Gildersleeve get left behind, and locked in the library. In the morning Marjorie reads the morning paper, where an account of the previous evenings happenings are recorded. Has Gildy and his gang of burglars been identified? For that matter, is he any closer to finding a cure for the silent canary? In caring for the bird, Napoleon flies the coupe and is on the loose.

Misunderstandings ensue, when a police officer is confused at what Gildersleeve is doing in the park. Leroy manages to retrieve the canary, and the cop is satisfied there’s nothing strange going on. Finally, in the pet shop, an array of products are suggested that might make a canary sing.. More cures are tried including singing to it, and a visit to a bird doctor. Will anything work?

Note: additional guest voice acting provided by Frank Nelson.
