Abbott and Costello – Robinson Caruso With Charles Laughton. 440210

Featuring Charles Laughton. Bud and Lou joke around about Valentines Day, and Lu gets confused over abbreviations. I can’t blame him on this one.

Announcer, Ken Niles trades one liners with Lou, before his radio wife, Verna Felton shows up. She has written a radio play of Robinson Crusoe. Soundman, Mel Blanc wants a part in the play, and what’s a radio play without sound affects?

After the commercial, Freddie Rich plays a tune made famous by David Rose, Holiday for Strings. Lou reads the proposed play, and wants the lead role. Mel is still trying out for a part. Charles Laughton makes his appearance to swap insults with Lou. Connie Haines sings, I’ll Be Around.

After another commercial break, the play goes on. It’s the big shipwreck scene. Jokes abound as the spoof finds the cast on the island, and dealing with jungles, natives, and canibals. The sound man makes Lou so mad he wants to give him the bird. I think Mel just might be able to give it back to him. The puns and hints at pop culture are only stopped by the closing commercial.
