Lux Radio Theater – Kathleen. 431227.

As she tries to bloom into adulthood, shirley deals with feelings of being treated like a child. Especially when she butts heads with Mrs Farrow, played by Verna Felton. Shirley is much the typical teen, even by some of today’s standards, sneaking out of the house, demanding privacy, sassing those in authority positions, testing the limits of her liberties, and desiring to push those limits farther. Doesn’t anybody understand her?

Kathlene is in that awkward phase of wanting to p included as an adult, but prone to childhood pranks and tantrums. Are her parents treating her unfarily? When a doctor is called in to examine their problem child, Kathlene decides to show them just how much of a problem child she can be. Can you say rebellious teen?

she starts with a hunger strike. The new, female doctor moves in and takes the place of the overbearing Mrs Farrow. She ses a kinder, gentler method of approach to break through to Kathlene. Kathleen likes her new nursemaid Angela so mucvh, she begins to have ideas of plaing matchmaker and hooking up her widower dad with her.

The gals hit it off, and as Kathlene dreams of the two getting romantically involved, Angela encourages the dad to get move involved with Kathlene. Though it isn’t called such a thing, dad is to take Kathlene on a special date for some father daughter bonding. Kathlene confronts Angela when she thinks the plan to get dad married off is going awry.

Kathleen gets emotional when yet another woman enters the scene to play on dad’s love. Whith all these women with conflicting plans, the claws ought to be coming out soon.

As Kathleen makes diary entries, and through voice over, we learn how imaginative and creative she is as she makes her plans and dreams. Cute and funny as we see how a teenager is prone to drama and over reacting? What? Teens did that kind of thing back in the 1940’s? Now grandmas’s secrets are out.

Angela confronts dad on his seeming lack of concern or responsibility. Guess who overhears and gets the wrong idea. Kathlene runs away and puts dad to the test. Will dad wake up to the needs of his daughter? Will all parties involved have their expectations met? What about real sacrifices that need to be made for the sake of loved ones?

It all shakes out in the dramatic, exciting, romantic climax, so listen in and don’t miss this cute story that has a lesson to be learned for everybody.

Teens, you’re not in it alone, and people understand more than they are given credit for. Parents, recognize that kids don’t stay little forever, and need room, and fredom to grow. Everybody needs to give in a little to the needs of others in our family relationships for all to get along.
