Cavalcade Of America (NBC) America For Christmas. 441225

A USO troupe puts on a show for themselves, America for Christmas. Reviewing Christmas through the decades since America was founded, they discover America all over again.

Music reflecting the nautical nature of whaling ships, dramatizations of life on the rocky farms of New England, and traveling peddlers are portrayed. The troupe moves from the rocky lands to points West, towards Pittsburg.

Following the same path as Daniel Boone and David crocket, we ride the Wabash Cannonball. We listen in on a couple river raft men swapping stories as they head towards St Louis. Mosquitos are one topic of exaggeration for the story tellers.

Next stop is on the Rock Island Line, and statesmen debating over changing the name of Arkansas. The rivalry between Arkansas and Kansas is left behind, for the potato country of Idaho. And what about the weather down in Texas? Migrant workers of the Southwest are given tribute in song. Musical salute is given to the Northwest as well, before returning to focus attention on California.

One last song is joined in for the USO troup of entertainers to bring a little bit of home to the servicemen overseas. Also a call for a solution of peace, and victory over those who would enslave the world.
