Leroy and Marjorie hog the phone, but Gildy has to reign in activities with friends, especially when it means that a blackout is on. How much more of this can he stand? When does school start? Noise from playing, broken windows, and the phone still rings with more annoyances for Gildy.
At Peavey’s drugstore, Gildy seeks advice on handling the rambunctious Leroy. Is it time that Leroy settle down, and will Peavey give the boy his job back. Well now, I wouldn’t say that.
Back home, the scandal deepens when Mrs Belzer has a complaint against Leroy. Even Piggy Banks mom is upset over Leroy’s pranks. Has juvenile delinquency run amock in Summerfield?
Calling a town meeting of concerned citizens, Gildy tries to get to the bottom of it all. Judge Hooker recommends they all just hold tight, until school starts next week. Maybe the new school principle will swoop in and crack the whip of discipline.
The board decides to approach the school now, and talk to Miss Goodwin about the state of the students. Ready to be stern, Gildy is taken aback to find a pretty principle, not the wrinkled old school mistress he supposed. The flirting preempts the message of the concern over the delinquents, but will he ever get to telling her about the problem? Somehow he comes around to her progressive ways.
