Burns and Allen – With Jose Iturbi and Deems Taylor. 430309

Still determined to play her One Finger Concerto with Paul Whiteman’s orchestra, Gracie keeps practicing. Her insistent practice is getting on the nerves of George, Herman, and Paul Whiteman himself. There’s no stopping Gracie once she has her mind set. Paul thinks that Deems Taylor might convince Gracie to retire from music. Meanwhile, Herman gets a quack or two in to show off his operatic voice. Paul Whiteman and his Orchestra play, Taking a Chance on Love.

Who is Deems Taylor? Gracie doesn’t even know who Deems is. The world class composer tries to convince Gracie to let the music that is insider to stay there. He has a story to tell Gracie that is family friendly, and has nothing to do with… you know… but it still won’t change her mind. Tootsie Bagwell pops in, and the man crazy woman manages to drive Deems away. Jimmy Cash sings, There’s a Rose that Grows in Noman’s Land. With Bill Goodwin, it turns into a plug to join the Red Cross to support the war effort.

Next, a visit from pianist, Jose Iturbi could get Gracie to back down… or not. Bill Goodwin pops in for one more sponsor message, before a piano play off begins. Seeing how Gracie is both contestant and judge, I think the decks will be stacked in her favor. Still, Jose performs a number designed to show off his amazing range at the 88 string guitar… er…. piano. A proposed date with Tootsie and Jose could seal the deal for Gracie.
