After dinner, George relaxes in the living room while Liz helps Katie with the dishes. She has to fess up to George about the fender bender she had. George tells Liz about the new insurance policy he just took out. Liz is upset over the idea of life insurance, and the thought that one of them might die. Liz wants to be prepared for the unknown, and goes out to try and get a job.

Liz needs to use the phone, if only the other lady will get off the party line. Will the gossip ever end? Eventually Liz ends up at secretarial school to learn a few job skills. Typing, shorthand, and more. Liz offers to use her newfound skills to help George with his work. She shares some of her secret shorthand symbols that she invented.

Liz gets her big break when George’s secretary is sick, and she gets to be his substitute. There’s another incident with the gossip on the party line.

Liz tries to disguise herself so George won’t recognize her. Of course, George see’s through her, and has some fun teasing Liz about the work environment, and chasing the secretary around the office. George struggles through a dictation session, but will Liz hold up in the business meeting?

Frank Nelson is the chairman. and when Lizzes letter is illegible she tries to answer questions from her special shorthand symbols. Liz has learned her lesson, but when she tries to quit the secretarial school, she has more trouble with party line gossip.
