On the waterfront a cop spots a suspicious man. He is identified as previously trying to commit suicide, but tonight the melancholy man seems to be on a different mission. He goes to meet a stranger with a foreign accent, who is apparently a famous scientist. What can the professor want with a guy who has failed in his suicide? Has he discovered a formula to guarantee success in art?

Elsewhere, Lamonte Cranston and Margot Lane meet a friend of their cabbie, Schrievie. It’s John, the artist who was just given the formula to success. In the art gallery, the statues are impressive and lifelike. The sculptures intrigue Lamonte, and it could be a thing for the Shadow to investigate closer.

Using his power to cloud men’s minds, the Shadow sets the stage to his benefit. Evidence points to unlocking the secret of a rash of missing persons. Can the Shadow put an end to the unnatural secret that creates the artwork,? Margot may need to spring into the picture to get Lamont out of danger.
