X Minus One – The Map Makers. ep68, 560904

An expeditionary rocket finds itself in deep space, and in trouble after being struck by a meteor. What’s it like to do hyperspace jumps? Why don’t they use a computer for the calculations, rather than rely on human scientists? The accident has taken out some of their key engineers and navigator.

Can the ship librarian be of assistance in getting back into hyperspace operation? The crew at least knows where they are. Now they turn to conserving resources. Important things like breathing air, and not wasting it… huh? They’re designed for deep space… there ought to be long term filtering, or other systems for that.

Time for the actual hyper jump. Will the librarian’s performance be up to speed? Flashing colors, optical illusions and distortions, is this typical? Heat builds up in the ship. Will conditions improve as long as the navigator remains sidelined? The hope is that a hyper jump, and return to normalcy will save the day. Its a race against the rising heat, and heat casualties before the jump can be made. A blind navigator holds the key.
