We join Dick Huddleston as he talks to Lum about Abner. After his late night phone call where he complained about spending his last fifty cents, and winning a jackpot in a slot machine, they’re sure that he didn’t get his inheritance.
They feel sorry for Abner’s hard luck, and having to come home to start all over again. Dick manages to make a deal with Squire to rent back Abner’s property, but what about his furniture? Maybe the people in town will rally around their old friend.
Lum gets on the party line to announce an old fashioned pounding, the custom of giving a needy family a good start. Folks are to bring food, furnishings, or anything they can for a welcoming and housewarming party. Abner sends word that he’ll be returning on the train, which makes Lum glad that he had enough money to get home on.
