One Man’s Family – Book 72, Chapter 7 – Paul Meets the Lady in the Case

Arriving home from the law office, Jack muses the clothes lines full of diapers looks like surrender flags. He’s a little preoccupied as he talks with his wife Betty. Will Jack be able to ask permission to join a bowling team with the guys at work? Both of the young parents are showing signs of wear and tear at the daily grind of taking care of six girls. What’s it going to be? To bowl, or not to bowl?

Back home, Fannie lets Henry know how she feels about his constant phone interuptions. Hazel pops in for dinner, and hears from her dad about letting her daughter Margret bake at Mr Frome’s house. Will he let his feelings boil to the surface, and be rude to Margret? Paul has plans to eat over at the Frome house to meet his sister. A matter that further irritates Henry. Is his fear of a conspiracy against the Barbers a founded one?

Upstairs, Cliff helps Paul get ready for his date. Nicollette, former female friend of Paul, phones. Suddenly Paul feels a little uncomfortable about going out with another girl.

Over at Frome’s, his sister isn’t impressed with Rex’s attempts at flaunting himself. Paul and Rex discuss the new books in the library. It comes out that Paul has had a book or two published. Not big sellers, but published. We also learn some of Christine’s past, the death of her husband in an auto crash, and wanting to resume her piano playing. Chris and Paul seem to hit it off, but does Rex have some barely hidden insecurities?
