Jack Benny – I Flew to Mars. ep847, 530517

Don rolls back the clock to visit with Jack in his home, going over the souvenirs he brought back with him on his recent trip to San Fransisco. Rochester and Polly join him, as Dennis Day pops in with news that he’s quitting the show. What is it that he doesn’t like about the show? Bob Crosby phones in with trouble with the band. Dennis sings, If I Love You.

Mary pops into read a letter from her mom. The news has to do with Mothers Day, and relatives who are in jail, on quiz showsand Jacks trip to San Fransisco. Not knowing what to do, Jack reads a book. At the library, Jack has trouble getting a library card and giving up his real age. The Sportsmen sing a sponsor message with, Let Me Whisper in Your Ear.

Jack looks over various book titles before settling on, I Flew to Mars. In voiceover Jack reads the narative, with the cast providing the dramatic parts. Mary tells about the spaceships equipment, a buggy whip, and a raccoon tail on the radiator cap in the spaceship. Landing on Mars, they discover there is indeed life on the planet. Mel Blanc is the Martian greeting party who takes Jack to his leader. The excitement is too much, and Jack is asked to leave the library.

Note: Jack is Buzz Correy in his novel, which is of course the main character in the radio series, Space Patrol.
