Bergen and McCarthy – Ann Harding, Rodgers Hart 370509

After being cast members on the Rudy Valley show, Bergen and McCarthy have now had their show for a month. What a wierd concept, a ventrilloquist on radio.

Charlie cuts up with Don Ameche about being in Hollywood, does a bit where he is to bbe a butler for Edgar Bergen. Dorothy Lamor, the latest Hollywood sensation sings. A Drama short is performed A man who is an actor, and his actress wife. The man decides to test his wife by disguising himself and trying to seduce her. She doesn’t fall for it.

Second half startes with an orchestral medley. WC Fields returns, acting drunk, not seeming to recognize the cast. Don Ameche asks him to tell about his illness and recovery. In real life, WC Fields had been very ill, and had to take time off. He gets caught up dwelling on insulting remarks made by Charlie, and mentioning conflicting sponsors. In a meandering way he gets through the highlights of his hospital stay.

Followed by musical performances, a popular song and a bit from a musical. The show is a tad short and cuts off in the third musical number. Likely all that is missing is the end of that song and closing credits.
