Joan tries out her new 2 piece bathing suit, and talks with Paul about her boyfriend, Ken. Should she ask him up to the family ranch? How would Henry Barber feel about it? By not asking, how does it make Ken feel? Since Claudia and Nick are her parents, what will they suggest?
Inside as he relaxes in his easy chair, Henry Barber unintentionally over hears the woman talk between Claudia and her daughter Joan in the pool. Hazel joins the gals to talk about the problem of Margret being Henry’s favorite grand daughter. The candid conversation reveals how the womenfolk are feeling about the attention Margret gets. Is Henry too self centered? Is it his way of being a family man? How is Henry taking the new found secrets? What about Margret? Even she knows her control over her grandpa.
Poolside gossip is joined by Paul and Cliff. When a letter from Pinky arrives, the whole family gathers around to hear the news.
After being armed with the afternoon’s gossip, Henry joins the pool activities, complete with his old time swim suit. What other ways will he take advantage of the tidbits of family gossip that he has learned? Will he prove the kids wrong about his curmudgeonly ways? The old guy shows off his best dive, and under water swimm, all to the surprise of everybody.
As the sun sets over the Sky Ranch, Paul, Dan, and Hazel chat about about the mysterious behavior of Joan, and their dad. Has Pa Barber washed his hands of being watchdog over Joan?
