One Man’s Family – Book 64, Chapter 12. 471214

Title: Conclusion of a Treasure Hunt.

Across the globe, unaware of the rest of the family, Paul Barber and his companion Nicolette recover from a dynamite blast to their hotel. They are in pursuit of Patricia Baldwin, a Red Cross nurse who is fleeing for her life from dangerous world powers. Nicolette fills Paul in on what has happened to them since he has been unconcious. Are they held prisoner? By who, and why?

There’s a new world situation that’s being called a Cold War. Nicolette, Paul, and their captor discuss what this new thing is all about. Why does the captor also want Patricia Baldwin found alive?

Back at the Barber ranch… Cousin Jeddiah X Barber is equal parts endearing and annoying. Henry’s patience is wearing thin as Jeddiah talks about the population of Bloomington. Fanny Barber is amused at the idiosyncracies. Margret visits, and is soon to be known to Jeddia as Claudia Margret. Time has past the old cousin by, as he tries to make sense of the old photograph he had to identify his distant relatives. Jeddiah plays door man to welcome the real Claudia. The eccentric cousin marvels at the nice weather of California, and the lack of cold or snow.

Over at Hazel’s house, she phones to remind her parents to come to a dinner tomorrow. She and her husband Dan learn about the treasure chest he dug up. Dan tells how the wild goose chase for treasure started with a secret message found in a deck of cards. He ended up in a Chinese cemetary, where he dug up his box. Is there really 3 million dollars inside? Not exactly, but the narcotics will need to be handed over to the police to avoid legal troubles. Will there be any embarrassing newspaper stories?
