Great Gildersleeve – Leroy Runs Away. ep23, 420201

It’s payday for Birdie, and both Leroy and Marjorie have a hand out for their allowances. Is there any hope of a raise? Is Leroy up to something? He volunteers to go to bed early, and the next morning, all that’s left is a note pinned to his pillow. The police arre notified, but how far can Leroy get on his meager allowance?

A clue finds Gildy and Marjorie on the road to Watertown, but a flat tire slows the progress. With no spare, and no priority for war time shortage of rubber, Gildy is stuck. Unless Birdie can rescue him in her jalopy.

Creeping down the road in Birdies car, Gildy finds a wrecked car with tires that ought to fit his car. Can he swing a bargain with the owner of the wreck? A passing cop thinks Gildersleeve is a car stripper, and has to iron out the matter at the station.

Gildy’s fellow inmate turns out to be the run away Leroy. All he wanted to do was join the Navy to do his part in the war. Though they spend the night in the lock up, Gildersleeve tells how people can better serve the war effort if they can’t serve in the military. With no one to be found to prosecute him, Gildy gets out of jail, but he may not like finding out who the wrecked car’s owner really is.
