Fibber McGee and Molly – Mcgee Minds A Baby. 380124.

Fibber seems to be in a cantankerous mood today. He has to turn down a job in the circus, then a knock comes at his dor. A woman drops off her little baby, Rose, for Fibber to watch. He tries to play baby games with her, but seems to be getting nowhere. Fibber asks his bandleader, Billy Mills to help out with a lullabye. It doesn’t work out so hot either so Billy Mills plays, the Theme to Snow White.

After Harlow Wilcox visits for the commercial,, it’s back to the baby games, but stil no luck. Fibber phones a local nursery, but it’s ffor a different kind of Roses. Fibber gets right through. I guess Mirt wasn’t on duty as phone operator yet. The nursery clerk that Fibber talks to is Gale Gordon. They do an extended bit where they confuse each other’s nursery needs.

Clark Bennet sings, Easy to Remember. His song gets snipped a bit short. Fibbers baby troubles are interupted again by another offer on the phone to join the circus. With the trouble that baby Rose is giving him, including breaking his watch, maybe he ought to take it.

Billy Mills gives it another go at a lullabye. The Old Timer visits, and the loud talking and slamming door wakes the baby. Fibber brags to harlow about his expertise, and in being known as Coo Coo McGee.

After a shortened musical interlude, Fibber is visited by Nick Depoppolis, the local Greek immigrant. In all the attempts to put baby to sleep and play with her, I’ll bet there’s at least two things they haven’t checked yet. It involves input and output.

When the phone rings again with that circus offer, Fibber’s baby frustration drives him to take it. In a closing cameo, the baby talks in her real voice.

Note: For a while in the late 1930’s Molly didn’t appear on the show. She took some months away, presumably to take a break and relax from the pressures of the show. The official reason was kept secret, but a few rumors have, and still do circulate as to her reasons. Without Molly, there sure was a little of the winning chemistry missing, and no Teeny either.
