Case Dismissed – Rights When Arrested. ep8, 540320

Ed is to meet his buddy charlie for a weekend of fishing. Circumstances of such an outing, with an early start, and a miscommunication puts Ed on the spot. Overly eager cops mistake him for a burglar who has been terrorizing the neighborhood.

The cops don’t want their man to get away, or off the hook. Ed is arrested on no charge, held without being allowed to call an attorney, he was never told what his charge was, the head cop is unwilling to look into any of Ed’s friends who could clear him. Ed is relentlessly interogated, made to stand as the sole person in a lineup, and his house is searched without a warrent.

Taking some pity on him, the junior officer calls Ed’s attorney, and discovers that Ed’s story is true. With the lawyer on hand, things happen quickly. Ed recieves justice, the case is dimissed, but the cops aren’t punished as heavily as you might think they ought to be.
