Great Gildersleeve – Hiccups. ep5, 410928

It’s the end of the first month that Gildersleeve has been handling the guardianship of Marjorie and Leroy. It’s also an important day, one to make an accounting of how things have been managed, a day to make perfect impressions on the judge. Suddenly Gildy is stricken with an annoying case of hiccups.

Home remedies and cures run rampant. Comedy ensues as Gildy tries everything from a glass of water, to scare tactics from Leroy. Can Gildy get his hiccups under control before his moment in court?

The desperate situation even leads to a police escort to the doctor’s office. As amazing as modern medicine is, will there be a cure forthcoming?

Time won’t wait, and Gildersleeve has to face Judge Hooker, even with his case of hiccups. The judge isn’t quite as crabby as he has been, and he’s almost sympathetic as he offers his own home remedy for hiccups. Will the hiccups ever go away? On the way home, Gildersleeve encounters a couple of muggers, but he thinks it’s just another prank of Leroy’s. Let’s just say that he ends up losing more than his hiccups.

Note: Mel Blanc appears as Gildy’s friend Ted. Characters on the show are still being developed, as Marjorie refers to, “Mr Fowler at the drugstore” rather than Peavey. Also, I’ fairly certain that a voice actor is doing the hiccups. Not particularly well, if you ask me, and quite annoying. But I think annoying is what the producers were going for.
