In the aftermath of the destruction of the voice machine, Jack Roebling is finally taken into custody of the cops, and Dr Roebling mourns the loss of his invention. Clark does his best to comfort the scientist, and offer hope. Can the machine be repaired? Apparently the doctor didn’t take notes, and can’t remember how it all works.
Urging on the work to rebuild, Clark keeps on encouraging the progress. Have the efforts been successful?
How can the doctor repay Clark for his help? All he wants is a story, and if the machine can also pick up current conversations in a part of the city, not just historical events. A test run is made. The excersize in eavesdropping ereveals a gang planning a crime. Will Clark be armed with all the details he needs to prevent a murder? Who is Duke, Curly, and Benson?
