In the Long Branch, Doc, Chester, and Kitty witness a slow witted veteran of the Civil War enter. Pendel is taken advantage of the usual hard cases in Dodge City. His money has been stolen, he’s the butt of jokes, but is it all just harmless fun? Will some veterans of the Confederate army try to lynch Pendel?
Matt breaks up the gathering, and helps Pendel find some work and a place to stay. The wandering Pendel has only his mule and guitar, and plans to return home, which is further out west. While he works to earn more money, the rowdies are back to pull more pranks including vandalizing his mule. Can Pendel soothe the wild beasts of men by playing a tune on his guitar?
No such luck, but how will Pendel react when his last possession, his guitar is taken from him? Will Matt have to arrest the simple minded man foor murder? Matt doesn’t think Pendel did it, but the townsfolk are being tight lipped over who the killer is.
