On the planet Mercury, emergencies have Commander Correy and Cadet Happy torn between a lost space ship on the dark side of the planet, and trouble in the city on the sunward side. The scientists doing work for mining operations has been missing for 4 days, is there any hope he could have survived the sub-zero temperatures on the side of that hot planet that always faces away from the sun?
Earthquakes seem to be commonplace, and are the cause of steam vents, and surface cracks. Hmm… shouldn’t that be Mercuryquakes? A radio signal may offer hope that the scientist is alive, but the surface cracks and steam spouts keep raising flags for Commander Correy, and keeps him busy as he stays on the track of saboteurs.
Investigating a well camouflaged park of construction vehicles, Correy and Happy find themselves in danger as the machines come alive around them in their space suits. Will the saboteurs win? Will a radio message of warning be sent out in time? The chase after the saboteurs takes the space patrol right into the path to rescue that missing scientist. How has he managed to survive? A discovery means salvation for the citezens of Solaria as well, and the end of the mining sabotage.
