It takes a lot of hard work to work a herd of cattle, and cowboys blow off steam by relaxing in the local salloon. When California has disappeared, Hoppy goes to investigate in town, but finds more troubles than he expected.
A fight has broken out, and the source that instigated it seems to come from across the street at the school house. Is the little old school marm behind the conflict? It sure doesn’t help her work in trying to teach the kids when a gambling house and salloon are so close to the school. Checking out all the possibilities, Hoppy investigates the tensions between business owners in town. As a part of the investigation, a school room of rowdy kids is found, and no teacher in sight. Has one of the warring factions done something to Miss Abbott?
With Miss Abbott’s abduction, Hoppy is certain she’s an innocent party, and goes to the schoolhouse to try his hand at being a teacher. What clues might he glean from talking to the kids? California takes over the lessons as Hoppy heads for the hills, and a cabin where he thinks he’ll find the missing school teacher. Stalking through the woods, Hoppy rescues the school marm, and manages to unravel the real mystery of theexplosive rivalry of the warring factions. He also learns the scrappy school marm can handle herself when push comes to shove.
