Gunsmoke – The Margin. 571013

Grody is a cowhand who was charged as a cattle thief. Without enough evidence for the court of law, he’s free to go. He wasn’t entirely cleared either, and the public sentiment is against him. His lack of action doesn’t make Mat very popular, but rancher Flagg can put out the word so others won’t hire him either.

Cattle are still coming up missing, and Flag is still upset at Matt for not putting the law to work any faster. Has Grody been seen back in the area? Will the rancher follow through on his threat to take the law into his own hands to prevent more loss of his herd?

A key witness to the mystery is the Miller girl. Matt may know outlaws, but he’s clueless about women. Kitty lays it on the line about the gal who’s as homely as a mud fence, and her jealousy towards Grody. That may explain why Grody was blamed for the stolen cattle, but it doesn’t answer who actually did it. It doesn’t take long once Matt spots a big spender in town. A showdown could be in store as Matt rides out to confront Flag on the matter of missing cows. It’s sure to be the sorriest day of somebody’s life when the truth comes out.
