The usual election time fanfare is missing as the time to choose a new sheriff arrives. Hoppy and California arrive to learn from Lem Purdy and his daughter about the crooked sheriff, and how he has the town afraid to vote against him. He backs catttle rustlers, he’s a more ruthless killer than the outlaws he protects, and he tampers with the ballot box.
Hop Along agrees to side with Lem to run for sheriff, and does all he can to ensure an honest election is carried out. Though the sheriff is on his best behavior, he lets his henchmen run wild to bully the honest citezens, including the printer who makes a batch of handbills for Lem.
Things look as bad as they can when Lem’s general store is ransacked, and the candidate is kidnapped. Meanwhile, the cattle rustling activity kicks into high gear. Can Hoppy stop the rustlers and henchmen? Can he rescue Lem and make sure he shows up for the election? There’s still the matter of who holds the ballot box. Get ready for some fast riding, hard fighting adventure right to the bitter end.
