Orville is an apprentice gas meter reader, and he talks to Rush about some of the troubles that he has had on the job, and in raising a pompadour hair style. Sweetcorn McBlock joins the group with Vic.
Apparently Vic is not happy at all with Sweetcorn. The lodge brother is to be booted out of the lodge. It’s an unpleasant ceremony for Vic to conduct over the infraction of not paying dues. As the Exalted Big Dipper, it’s his sworn duty.
The ceremony is a public one, so Orville and Rush can witness the embarrassment of cutting the buttons off Sweetcorn’s coat, and otherwise being abused. Rush reads the details from the lodge manual as Vic performs the duties.
The loathesome reptile, the miserable wretch, the shattered bullfinch is duly chastised.
