In Dodge City, a stranger causes some trouble in the Long Branch salloon. Matt is on hand, but not in time to prevent the shoot out, and killing. The young stranger is locked up although it was a matter of self defense. Matt talks to the kid about making the right decision, and use his abilities for good and not evil. Is it too late for the kid to shed a reputation of being a gun fighter? With the help of Matt and Chester, Andy, the new kid seems well on the way to making a fresh start.
Time goes by, and a man named Joe Kite confronts Matt about a man that he may have to shoot. Matt warns the man to remain peaceful, but yu know there’s going to be problems eventually. Mat relaxes in the Long Branch, talks with Miss Kitty and Andy about fishing. When Andy leaves to go about his business, the peace is broken by a shot that rings out.
Andy is shot at the hand of the mysterious Joe Kite. Andy is still alive, but can Doc save him? Matt goes to learn what Joe’s story is. Joe is a bounty hunter, and reveals Andy’s true identity. Still it doesn’t change the fact that Andy was unarmed when he was shot. Suddenly the bounty hunter is squirming, and grasping at straws for his defense.
Matt goes to check on Andy, whose condition is delicate, but he is alive to tell Matt what happened, and come clean about his past. He tells how he quit the gang that caused the price to be on his head.
Though Andy dies, and the bounty hunter was in his right, Matt turns the tables for some justice over his reformed friends unjust death. He makes it so the chances of a reward won’t be comeing for the boutny hunter.
