A man by the name of Chicken Smith is thought to be the instigator of a fight, but Matt knows he comes by the name with a reason. Besides being a chicken farmer, he just isn’t the type to get into a brawl. It involves a girl named Ellie, and a rough guy of Dodge, which could be enough motivation for the ordeal.
After checking his newly repaired revolver, Matt and Chester listen to a few words of wisdom about chickens from the mild mannered farmer. Can his logic on the behavior of chickens carry over to real life women? His young wife Ellie is one chicken who doesn’t know when to run from danger. Will Chicken Smith heed a word of wisdom from Matt?
As Matt, Chester, Kitty, and Doc gather one evening, word breaks up their friendly chatter and it screaches to a halt when a report that Ellie has run away. The stormy night isn’t helping their cause as the lawmen rush off on the trail of the run away girl. A wrecked wagon is found, but where is Ellie? It’s almost anti-climatic when Matt goes after Chicken Smith, and in his admission, reveals more than just the murder of his wife.
