Hermits Cave – It Happened On Sunday 1940. (retro415)

Ray and Violet discuss their pending life together, but they first need to work through some emotional problems. Ray Putnam is an artist who came into a family inheritance a few years ago, but he’s tormented at the ghost of his mother, Miriam, who returns to walk the halls of the mansion on the anniversary of her death.

Pete is a friend who tries to cheer up Ray. He doesn’t seem to fully understand Ray’s emotional state, and thinks a weekend of fun at the cottage will be the band aid to fix the long ingrained mental burdens. Pete also can’t understand why Ray’s inheritance doesn’t free him of burdens, since he now has enough money that he no longer has to rely on selling his paintings to make a living. Is there actually a ghost?

Before he is willing to go on with his life, and marry Violet, Ray wants to prove it to himself that he can resolve the matter of the haunting. The time of the anniversary of Miriam’s death draws near, and Ray is troubled by chairs that rock by themselves, voices in the hiose, and other creepy happenings.

As Ray struggles with his imaginary ghosts, he fights back with real guns, but in the end he shares a secret that sets him free. What will that secret cost him once it gets revealed?
