Mary is an older woman who has been having domestic troubles. Red Southard is a bully who has beat her, and robbed her of her savings and other valuables. Matt doesn’t have far to look when Kitty arrives to report that Red is causing troubble in the Long Branch. The bully pushes until Matt takes him down on his own terms. Later, Chester talks with Doc about the merits of the stuff being sold by a snake oil salesman.
After a couple days in jail, and with saner heads, Matt levels with his prisoner. Justice may be getting carried out, but it won’t right the wrongs done to Mary. A work program is arrived at, to work off his debts to the pioneer woman.
Time passes, and Mary comes to Dodge to tell Matt how well things are working out.
