Big Town – A Date With Death 490118. (retro413)

A young girl has a date with death as she meets her boyfriend along a stretch of lonely road. Chick Malone claims he has an unloaded gun, just to put a scare into intended victims. Johnny is the sickly brother of Violet, and tries to prevent his sister from getting involved with such a rat as Chick. He’d rather die of his affliction. Violet is desperate enough though, and drives the get away car as Chick pulls of the small time robbery.

Elsewhere in the newsroom of the Big Town newspaper, Lauralai talks with Steve about their stories of the day. The owner of the bar where the robbery went awry phones his friend Steve Wilson. Getting all the details, he recognizes the plight of the girl, and her misguided attempt at raising money for her brother.

The story of human drama finds Steve and Laurali talking to Johnny. Can he track down the wayward youths before their crime spree spreads? Chick has pretty much kidnapped Violet after his mishap in the robbery left him blinded. He’s making her drive him to safety, and he’s sure he killed the bar tender. Will his blindness be temporary after his thump on the head? Will Violet continue to believe his lies?

Following up on all the clues available to him, Steve Wilson closes in on the two young criminals in their cabin hide out. Has he walked into a deadly situation? Does Steve have a plan, or will the half blinded criminal on the run force Steve and Violet into helping him escape?
