Command Performance – Ida Lupino, Phil Harris, Gracie Fields, Garry Moore. 431120

Hosted by Ida Lupino. She dips into the mailbag for a request to hear a canary sing. Afterward, Connie Haines sings, Don’t Get Around Much Anymore.

More gretings are read from the maillbag. MSGT Skinny Ennis and his orchestra perform a swinging number. Then Phil Harris enters and talks with Ida Lupino, and Skinny Ennis. The two guys start arguing over women, namely Ida. Phil sings his signature song, That’s What I Like About the South.

Ida reads more greetings from the mailbag. Then By request, the country swing band version of Spike Jones, the Hoosier Hot Shots sing, Hillbillies Are Mountain Williams Now.

After still more mailbag greetings, Gary Moore is introduced. He talks about dignity, a concept that in future years would become termed as Political Correctness. He tells a comic story about a man named Herman Clinch. He’s a man obsessed with the unanswered question of whether the light stays on in the fridge when the door is closed, or not.

Next up, long time singer of novelty songs, Gracie Fields responds to mailbag requests to sing a novelty tune. Ida closes the show with a few motivational words for the troops.
