Phil Harris – Going to the Circus. 1950.

Alice and Phil get ready for the day and jokes about aging are the theme. The girls rescue the moment by entering to ask about going to the circus. Frankie enters in time to catch Phil flexing his muscle for the family. Since Frankie has special tickets, everybody heads off to the circus. This can’t b good. what will it cost Phil and Alice?

For now, the family enjoy the sideshows, but when Frankie says he lost the tickets, Alice has enough to cover her and the girls. Phil and frankie have to fend for themselves, and end up as part of the lion taming act. Julius arrives, but will he be trickd into Phil and Frankie’s plan? Phil sings, You Can’t Do wrong Doing Right.

Thinking that they’ll be part of the clown act, Phil and Frankie put on lion and tiger costumes, and let Julius roll them into the bigtop. will our heros fool Clyde Beaty, the world famous animal tamer? will they fool the big cats? will Alice be jealous of Phil’s newfound furry girlfriend?

PS: In the show, Phil claims Alice is 31. She’s actually a little older than that at this time.

Though there are some memorable moments in the show, I enjoyed the opening scenes in the Harris home, the gimick of sneaking into the circus, only to end up in the lion cage is so overdone. I think every comedy show about the circus that involves sneaking in, degrades to this scene. Still, the writers did try to put a little different spin on the ordeal.
