The new adding machine is still taking center stage in the role as Abner’s nemesis. However, with Lum gone, he takes time to play checkers in the Jot ‘Em Down Store with grandpap, Abner talks about the grief the machine has caused him at being right all the time. He comes up with a way to outsmart the machine, but when he shows off to Lum, the secret of Abner’s short lived victory is out.
In the meantime, Lum is upset at Ezra Seastrunk at wanting him to take part in the school board meeting. He refuses, until he sees the cute school teacher on the street, and a quick change of mind is made.
