American Trail – Magic Wire. ep8, 1953.

As Samuel Morse struggles to bring his invention to life, we get a glimpse of his unglamourous house and workshop. Will he win the grant money that he desperately needs to continue his work? Will Annie be able to encourage Sam to go on, despite the losses of his recently deceqased wife and family?

The once wealthy artist and inventor gets his big break, and work is begun on testing how to lay wires, and tapping out a signal. The drama builds as we relive the daily crisis of failures. Then the moment arrives, and the first message is sent. An era of long distance communications is launched after 12 long years of hard work. “What hath God wrought?” Only the framework for widespread communication that would later be built into the telephone company, and later still, into the Internet.

PS: After listening to the last couple episodes again, I think I have episodes 7 and 8 switched. Not sure, but I think the chronological order in history may be off in the series progression.
